Seed Grants

Wild Animal Initiative’s Seed Grants support small research projects aiming to answer preliminary questions that must be addressed before attempting indicator validation or developing a proposal for one of our other research grant types.

This can include systematic literature reviews, meta-analyses, and pilot studies that identify potential indicators worth validating, prototyping data collection methods and technology, etc.

Up to 2 years

Selection criteria for Seed Grants

We evaluate proposed projects in terms of our general selection criteria (scope, impact, engagement, feasibility, research ethics, focus on wild animal welfare, and cost-effectiveness). In addition, we evaluate Seed Grants based on their likelihood of contributing to a subsequent competitive proposal for one of our other research grant types.

Application process

CFP guidance is provided in the relevant announcement document, but in summary:

Applicants submit an EOI form with details of the project .
Shortlisted applicants are invited to submit a full proposal and supporting documents (animal methods form and collaborator CVs).
Further shortlisted applicants may be required to submit changes based on reviewer feedback before final decisions are communicated.
