Predator-Prey Interactions: Gordon Research Seminar travel grant

Wild Animal Initiative is pleased to offer a travel grant for one individual with a strong interest in the emerging field of wild animal welfare science (WAWS) to attend the Predator-Prey Interactions: Gordon Research Seminar (January 24-25, 2026) and Gordon Research Conference (January 25-30, 2026) in Tuscany, Italy. 

To apply for the travel grant, you must be an early-career researcher (graduate or postdoctoral level) hoping to attend both the conference and the preceding ECR seminar, and planning to present (via poster or talk) research related to wild animal welfare and predator-prey interactions. 

Information and eligibility 

  • A maximum grant of $2000 USD is available to cover registration fees, travel and accommodation costs, and in-country expenses.

  • Applicants from any country that is eligible to receive funding from a US donor are welcome to apply. (You might wish to consult this list of United States sanctions, which provides some guidance on ineligible countries.)

  • Funding is conditional on attendance of the conference and seminar, and presenting on a topic related to wild animal welfare and predator-prey interactions at the seminar. We also encourage the applicant to take the opportunity to discuss the poster/presentation with wild animal welfare experts at Wild Animal Initiative and join the WAWS researcher community managed by Wild Animal Initiative. 

  • We encourage applications from early career researchers with limited access to alternative conference/travel grants. 

  • The successful applicant will receive partial funding ahead of the conference, via a formal grant agreement. All receipts must be provided after the conference to confirm the final reimbursement amount.
